On December 1, 2016, Roof Hub installed completely new Fox Hollow Grey shingles on this Green Colonial home on Lagrange Street in West Roxbury, MA.

When these Lagrange Street homeowners called Roof Hub out to West Roxbury, their Gable roof was 30 years old. Built in 1920, the Colonial home needed some professional help.

On December 1, 2016, we arrived in West Roxbury and removed 3 shingle layers. Next, we installed Roof Hub’s complete roofing system, including the Fox Hollow Grey shingles you’ll see in the photos on this page.

More Project Details

Removing multiple shingle laters

The primary reason this West Roxbury homeowner called us out for the estimate and ultimately had us re-roof the home is because the old roof had three layers of shingles.

Whenever you replace your roof, we recommend stripping all layers of shingles. In fact, this is the only way we’ll agree to do the job. This is very important, especially in New England because the more layers of shingles you have on your roof, the greater your chance for leaks (or worse, a collapse) becomes. Winter after winter, you see these unfortunate scenarios on the news. It was smart the homeowner decided to replace their roof before it was too late.

Considering dumpster size

Whoever you choose as your roofing contractor, make sure they properly account for the amount of shingles that are being removed from your roof so they can order the correct dumpster size. Installation day can become a nightmare if there isn’t enough room to dispose of the old shingles. Because this roof replacement involved removing three layers of shingles, we had to order a larger dumpster. On top of this, we dedicated extra crew to cleaning up the job throughout the day to account for the extra debris.

Replacing older cast iron vent pipes

During this installation, we replaced an older style cast iron pipe vent with a pipe collar insert. By making sure the entire roofing system was up to date, we were able to give this homeowner a full 50 year labor and material warranty, backed by GAF.
