Gardner Museum

The Gardner Museum not only features history pieces dating back to the early 1800’s, but the building itself is historic. The museum is in the Levy Memorial building built in 1886. Since Gardner is known as “The Chair City of the World”, the front of the building is shaped like a chair.

Why?

Because Gardner’s claim to fame is it’s chair-related nicknames: “ChairTown” and “The Furtniture Capital of New England” because of the high amount of furniture many of the town’s factories used to produce, and many still do! Make sure you don’t miss checking out the Bicentennial Giant Chair– a 12 foot tall chair located at the  Gardner Heritage State Park’s Visitor Center
